"No AI" Won't Save You

Dear Creative Dispatch

Dear Creative,

As AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su said in a recent WIRED interview with Lauren Goode, she feels an increasing responsibility to contribute to make sure the rules are written right -- in this case, as it relates to artificial intelligence and U.S. policy.

I agree.

When it comes to artificial intelligence and art, we can't be so timid as to say "no AI."

And yes, I think that's a timid stance.

Being open minded is more challenging -- yet more rewarding.

A black-and-white view of success does not serve humanity well if you ask me.

Yes, handmade matters.

Yes, human first, always. (All AI or AI-first is not it, to be clear. Responsible AI? I'm listening.)

And. What if the technology helps us heal? Become happier and more fulfilled? Move with less fear?

What if it's not 100% bad -- because when is the last time that was the case?

I think the rush to AI on the corporate side is seeking a false level of "safety" by gaining a "consistent" output. But humanity, innovation, and ultimately value comes from connections. Rest. Reflection.

Yep, even a little agitation.

Exposing more of the process in all disciplines may help re-align the value... I hope.

It won't happen if we don't add our voices to the conversation, though.

This isn't an ad. I started building in public last year, posting vulnerably and honestly on LinkedIn about my creative process and what I was learning and trying.

I didn't expect what happened next. I'll write more about that in a future newsletter, but I can say thanks to people I looked up to showing up to help, Alaina's cohort, staying committed to hard work, and meeting many new creatives over the last six months, I've found my voice again.
